“I imagine NY22 to be a river flowing downstate, from headwaters at the Canadian border to its delta in the Bronx. A mostly rural two-lane highway, Twenty Two is not the principle artery it once was. For 337 miles it snakes along a changed landscape but cuts a deep path through layers of history. I am steadily drawn upstream, towards the North Country.
Informed by literary and photographic road trip genres, my work departs from the tradition of quickly moving through America. I reinterpret a place in flux through repeated sessions. The river where I set my foot just now is gone…it’s now this and then this. My photographs exist as glances, subjective and incomplete evidence of fragmentary encounters.”
